• Richard Kluge

    Richard has over 30 years of experience in standards for telecommunications specifically centering on the safety and reliability of network infrastructure and its reliability. Richard provides consulting services, representation in national standards bodies, development of equipment requirements, special reports on electrical and physical protection issues, industry seminars, and guidance on the evolution of network infrastructure to NEBScore clients.

    Richard has managed technical updates to major industry GR documents including NEBS documents GR-63 and GR-1089, data center document GR-3160 and reliability document SR-332. In the past, Richard served as Technical Editor for the ATIS standard for temperature and humidity requirements for network equipment in controlled environments, as well the ATIS standard for earthquake resistance. Richard is an active committee member on the NFPA technical committees for the fire code, telecommunication facilities, IT facilities, energy storage systems, and fire alarms, among others. Richard has trained engineers on NEBS topics as well as installation quality and power systems.

    Richard holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey.

  • Helmut Knehr

    Helmut is the team’s lead expert in optical fiber, cable and component technologies. He has over 25 years of experience in the industry including: developing standards and quality programs, managing test laboratories and teams, planning optical backbone networks, assisting supplier internal laboratories and improving manufacturing processes. Helmut is responsible for developing and maintaining the majority of the optical GR portfolio including: GR-20, GR-409, GR-326, GR-1209, GR-1221, and GR-1435. Helmut participates in other standards bodies such as TIA (U.S. standards) and IEC (international standards). Helmut actively cultivates beneficial relationships with new customers and develops creative and effective partnerships across the industry.

    Helmut has a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Physics degree from Stevens Institute of Technology.

  • Ernie Gallo

    Ernie is the NEBScore Project Manager for network integrity solutions addressing the physical layer of the networks as well as product performance, quality and safety. Ernie provides strong technical contributions in the areas of reliability of outside plant equipment, fiber and wireless deployment, electrical protection, safety and cost reduction.

    Ernie has over 40 years in the telecommunications and safety industry. He currently serves as Chair or Vice Chair in several IEEE and ATIS technical committees and is an ATIS representative on the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code. Ernie is also a member of the NFPA technical committees addressing the fire code, electrical safety in the workplace, and lightning protection. Ernie has been an author and presenter at the ISE Show, Fiber to the Home Show, Telemanagement World, International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE), NFPA EXPO, Verizon Symposium and Globecomm. Ernie is a member of the Industry Group for UL497, UL1449, UL96 – Electrical Protectors and previous member of US Delegation to IEC standards for Surge Protective Devices. Ernie has written over thirty-five Generic Requirements documents, including GR-3171 on wireless devices. Ernie’s work to increase equipment reliability was acknowledged by the Federal Communications Commission which provided him a Certificate of Appreciation from his work. Ernie also received an ATIS Award for Leadership in Standards Development.

    Ernie has a BSEE from Polytechnic University of New York.
